 Waypoint is an academic and research hospital that provides specialized mental health, addiction, and geriatric care to some of the most complex and disadvantaged people in Ontario. As a 315-bed psychiatric hospital, we deliver exceptional, progressive care, both on site at the hospital and in the communities we serve across the region.

 About the Opportunity:

We are currently seeking a General Psychiatrist to provide inpatient psychiatric services within Waypoint's Regional Programs. As an attending psychiatrist, you will work collaboratively with well-resourced interprofessional teams to provide assessment and treatment for individuals with complex mental health needs from across the Central region of Ontario. Opportunities are available to work across a variety of inpatient services, caring for patients with a broad range of psychiatric diagnoses and clinical presentations. This position offers a diverse and rewarding scope of practice within a comprehensive mental health institution that provides acute, tertiary, rehabilitative  & ambulatory care, with assignments that may evolve in response to organizational and clinical needs.

Key Accountabilities:        

• Provide psychiatric care for mental health inpatients, in a collaborative team environment with other health professionals including social work, nursing, occupational therapy and family medicine.
• Act as Most Responsible Physician (MRP) for management of psychiatric patient care, including attending team rounds and participating in interdisciplinary care planning.
• Complete assessments and admissions, deliver ongoing care, and arrange discharges
• Ensure timely electronic chart documentation that meets CPSO and Waypoint documentation standards
• Working collaboratively with a group of psychiatrists within our inpatient services in a collegial and supportive work environment.
• Clinical expectations are based around an 8 hour day with breaks and lunch.

Requirements/Qualifications:

• Licensed for independent medical practice and in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
• Fellowship Certification in Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or other certification that is deemed to be equivalent.
• Preference will be given to a candidate who is interested in contributing to our academic culture and who thrives as part of a collaborative team.
• Eligible for an academic appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto
• Models and promotes core ethical practice, Waypoint Values (Caring, Respect, Accountability, Innovation)
• Preference for proficiency in French/English language skills.

What we offer:

Salary Range - $445 828.73

Our salaried compensation model includes maternity /parental leave, five weeks paid vacation, two weeks paid professional development days, an education/professional dues allowance, a robust pension & health benefits plan, and paid maternity/ parental leave. Candidates may also qualify for Northern Recruitment and Retention Funding through the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.

Part time interests are welcome.

Please Note: This position offers a hybrid work environment consisting of in-office and remote work. Office location is 500 Church St in Penetanguishene, ON which is the main campus. Work could be included at local satellite locations including 1-952 Jones Road Midland ON L4R 4K3 and 287 Bayshore Dr Midland, ON L4R 1L3.
